SAKA MATCHES FABREGAS’ RECORD AT ARSENAL
Arsenal teenage sensation Bukayo Saka has matched Cesc Fabregas record at Arsenal in number of assists per season. He agreed fresh terms with the club last week, ending speculation over his future at the club. He reportedly agreed to stay at the club for four more years.
His versatility, willingness to learn and adapt has set him apart from his peers this season. He played in left-back, joined in midfield aside his role in the wings. The academy graduate’s profile is quickly rising at the club with him garnering 33 appearances in all competitions already.
Coach Mikel Arteta is fond of him already, describing him as “talented and intelligent.” The Spaniard says he is impressed with his work ethic and attitude to learn. He wants to keep helping the 18-year old develop so he can contribute to the club goals.
Before Saka, Fabregas’ record stood for 13 years. In February, his assist against Everton made him the first teenager at the club to reach double figures in assist. He went further to assist Nicolas Pepe last month to reach 11 assists in a single season. The breakout star can add more to that tally before the Premier League season ends.
Fabregas is revered for his ability to create chances and get assists. With Saka starting out in similar fashion, could he match Fabregas’ numbers? That would be a great plus for the Gunners considering he is home grown.
Saka says London is his home and Arsenal his club. He promises to remain diligent in working on his dreams.
Considering Arsenal are being economical with their resources, Saka’s story is refreshing to read.
