Barcelona midfielder Cesc Fabregas has openly admitted that he has not been extremely comfortable following is switch to the Spanish giant from Arsenal in the summer. Cesc Fabregas moved to Barcelona in a £ 35 million deal from Arsenal. This meant that he has once again arrived at the club where he started his career. He is expected to be the replacement for Xavi Hernandez once the 32-year-old retires from football. Fabregas had a sensational start to his Barcelona career after lifting two major trophies in the first few months after his arrival.
However, the second half of the season has been a major struggle for the 25-year-old, who has been criticised by many for disrupting the rhythm Barcelona have had in the last four seasons under Guardiola. It was no coincidence that Barcelona failed to retain the la Liga title and also the Champions League title due to the poor form shown by Fabregas in the final few months of the campaign. However, he has proved that he has not lost his quality by scoring the equaliser in the 1-1 draw with Italy in the opening game of the Euro 2012 for Spain. Vicente del Bosque demonstrated his confidence in the Spaniard by starting him ahead of regular striker Fernando Torres.
“It’s one of the things you have to adapt to. It’s not easy, it’s been tough. It has been a radical change in my life and like it or not it is hard to adapt. I went from playing with complete freedom of movement to Barcelona where the game is more positional. It was a challenge and I went through a period where I was very worried about it,” said Fabregas. He is once again expected to play a key role in the final group match of the Euro 2012 against Croatia.
Barcelona midfielder Cesc Fabregas has said that the club refused to give up on their principles and it was extremely delightful to see according to the midfielder. The former Arsenal man said that the Champions League exit would have been more painful had they given up on their philosophies in the match against Chelsea. Chelsea defended with 10 men behind the ball all the time. As a result, Barcelona were unable to play their usual passing game due to the number of bodies around the penalty box. Barcelona were also unable to cross the ball due to the lack of height within the team.
This meant that Chelsea are able to complete a stunning 3-2 win on aggregate against Barcelona, which helped them reach the final of the Champions League where they will be facing Bayern Munich. Many have been pointing out to the fact that Barcelona lacked a Plan B when the passing game was not working out. However, Fabregas has said that it was more crucial that Barcelona did not deviate from their philosophy of passing football. Despite having more than 80% of the possession in the match, Barcelona were unable to create many clear-cut opportunities apart from the penalty taken by Lionel Messi.
“It’s a painful way to go out because we were superior. The result in Stamford Bridge is what did us in. We played a great game, we dominated and we created a lot of chances. We didn’t sacrifice our style. It’s painful to be eliminated this way, seeing that we had a lot of chances to score. It’s a very hard blow. We have to hold our heads high. [Next year] we’ll have the chance to do important things,” Fabregas said after the match. Fabregas won the penalty for Barcelona, which was missed by Lionel Messi.
Cesc Fabregas is performing exceptionally well for Barcelona but is still the second fiddle to Lionel Messi. However he does dream big and makes sure that he manages to live up to his dream. He has already set eyes on the victory of the La Liga, the Champions League and the Copa Del Rey.
There is no doubt that he has been a star player and this can be seen with his lifting of the UEFA Super cup, The Club World Cup and The Spanish Super Copa already this season. He has always shown a constant hunger and desire that yearns for more and more and ensures that this New Year will also bring him a lot of victories and achievements like the last.
One of the most coveted trophies that Cesc Fabregas has set his eyes on is the Champions League and he is going to give in his best shot to ensure that Barcelona manage to lift the Champions League trophy this year.
