Rakitic Signed To Fill Fabregas Void

Croatian midfielder Ivan Rakitic was signed as a way to fill in the absence which was left behind by the former Arsenal player.

4 days after it was officially announced to the public that Fabregas was going to be making his way to Stamford Bridge and join Chelsea, Barcelona confirmed the signing of Ivan Rakitic who will be arriving from Sevilla and is going to be officially unveiled as well as meeting up with his new teammates at Camp Nou.

Despite all of the reports involving Ivan Rakitic being the successor and direct replacement of Cesc Fabregas, the Croatian midfielder has stepped it up during a press conference and revealed that he will not be moving to the Camp Nou to substitute anyone.

“I’m not going to substitute anyone; I’m going to Barcelona to be Ivan Rakitic, to do as best as I can but always being myself’’ Rakitic said.

After the transfer was confirmed by both parties, the president of Sevilla Jose Castro outlined the importance and influence that Ivan Rakitic has made in the Spanish club ever since he joined the squad on January of 2011.

“In just 149 games he has become one of the best players in Sevilla’s modern history. He fitted into the club’s character, which is why we wanted to say goodbye to him here, in his home.” Jose Castro stated.

Rakitic guided and captained Sevilla to their first trophy since 2007 as they overcame the Portuguese side Benfica on a dramatic penalty shoot-out during the finals of the Europa League of that year.

The Croatian is going to wear the number 4 shirt at Camp Nou as he arrives with a price tag of €15 million and the staff members of Barcelona are hoping that the introduction of Ivan Rakitic into the squad will help them restore the club’s former glory days which was something that never really happened with Cesc Fabregas.

The departure of Cesc Fabregas has started a series of rumors which are suggesting that the

Barcelona Had Replacement Lined Up

The departure of Cesc Fabregas from Barcelona was not a surprise for the Spanish club as they had already signed someone who was going to replace him even before Fabregas signed a 5 year long contract with Chelsea.

The Croatian midfielder Ivan Rakitic formed an integral part of Sevilla’s UEFA Europa League winning team which motivated Barcelona on making a move for him.

Rakitic penned a contract with Barcelona that will see him playing at Camp Nou at least until 2017 with an option in the agreement that allows the Crotian player on remaining for an extra season with the club if desired.

The star of Sevilla, Ivan Rakitic will be arriving to Camp Nou with a price tag of €15 million but will not officially unveil the player and signing to the public and fans of the club at least until next Tuesday as there are details and paperwork that needs to be verified and has to be in order.

Ivan Rakitic is the 3rd summer signing of Barcelona as they have already secured the services of Marc-Andre Ter Stegen and Alen Halilovic. The club of Luis Enrique managed on appealing their transfer ban which was postponed and will start on January of 2015.

While Rakitic will be making his way to Barcelona, Fabregas is yet another player that Jose Mourinho got a hold of before anyone else as the Spanish midfielder is expected to play a huge role in the upcoming season of Chelsea where they will also play in the Champions League and Diego Costa is on the verge of joining the Premier League club as well.

Jose Mourinho is confident that Diego Costa is going to make his move to Chelsea when the 2014 World Cup as Chelsea has launched an offer of €32 million for the 25 year old striker.

CESC AIDS RECOVERY

Barcelona recently recovered from the wobble by managing a 2-1 win over Manchester City in the Champions League. This helped them reach the quarter-finals of the competition, but there is a danger of the club losing out on the league title to either Real Madrid or Atletico Madrid. This is because they have suffered three league defeats in the last six matches and it has seen Real Madrid transform a six-point deficit into a four-point advantage with only a handful of matches remaining in the campaign. However, the Manchester City victory has put the club back on track according to midfielder Cesc Fabregas.

Barcelona have struggled for consistency under Gerardo Martino, who has also been attempting to change the style of play at the club. Fabregas has been playing a much more crucial role at the club this season and it is widely rumoured that the club are preparing for the exit of Xavi. The 26-year-old Fábregas, though, is looking at this season and says that there is no reason why Barcelona should go on and win the three trophies on offer – league title, Champions League, and Copa del Rey. The club will be taking on archrivals Real Madrid in the final of the Copa del Rey.

“I was worried that people were being overly critical of the team from all corners, because I see otherwise. I see the team wanting to be reborn. We will give it everything and the club is very much favoured in all three competitions. Yes, I’d rather avoid Real Madrid and Bayern Munich in the Champions League last eight. But then again there’s also Chelsea, while Paris Saint-Germain have taken a leap in quality – any opponent are now difficult,” said Fabregas.

Fabregas has contributed 28 goals for the club in just 42 appearances this campaign.

MOU SLAMS BARCA

Jose Mourinho criticized the current Barcelona squad around 1 week ago as he stated that even though Gerardo Martino has Lionel Messi and a number of other great players in the team, the Portuguese coach still considers the squad to be the worst Barcelona of many years.

“Of course they have Lionel Messi, he is special, and they have more than him. But I think this is the worst Barcelona of many many years”. Mourinho stated.

That was the statement that Mourinho expressed just before Barcelona went head to head with Manchester City for the 1st leg of the Champions League. Mourinho was stating that the Premier League team has a chance on defeating Barcelona as it just is not the same squad it was some years ago.

Cesc Fabregas has responded to Mourinho by saying that he should focus and only talk about the responsibilities and matches he has with Chelsea instead of going into the business of another club.

“He should talk about Chelsea and their tie. I don’t think he should talk about anything else. It is not his business. Some people want us to fail all the time; some people have been talking a bit too much, for a few days they will have to shut up.” Fabregas said.

Barcelona came out on top during their match against Manchester City as they won with a final scoreboard of 2-0 which is a huge advantage as the 2nd leg will now be played in the home turf of Barcelona, Camp Nou.

“It is normal everyone gets excited over this win, especially in a nice competition like the Champions League. We knew what we had to do and did it very well.” Fabregas added.
