BARCA STILL HAVE A LOT TO DO

Former Arsenal midfielder Cesc Fabregas has said that Barcelona still need to do a lot in order to make it into the next stage of the Copa del Rey. Barcelona have qualified for the Copa del Rey final, but Cesc Fabregas has said that the club needs to perform even better in order to win the trophy this season. Real Madrid are the current holders of the Copa del Rey, but Barcelona managed to eliminate them from the competition in the last round itself. Now, they have made it into the finals of the competition after securing a 2-0 win over Valencia.

Despite making it into the finals of the cup competition, Cesc Fabregas has said that Barcelona should not become complacent because they still need to go a long way into achieving the targets for the season. Barcelona are way behind Real Madrid in the domestic campaign. They are 10 points behind Real Madrid in the league, which has put their hopes of retaining the title for the fourth consecutive season in major doubt. However, they have one foot in the quarter-finals of the Champions league after securing a 3-1 win over Bayern Leverkusen in the last 16 round.

“We’re very happy and proud. Some talk the cup down, but we want to play [in] all finals. We will always try to be on top. Athletic are a great team in the making, they have great players and [it] will be a nice final. [For] now we must focus on the league, where we have much to do, and the Champions League,” Cesc Fabregas said after the 2-0 win over Valencia that helped Barcelona enter to the finals of the competition. The venue for the final has not been decided yet, but there are rumours that Real Madrid’s Santiago Bernabeu will be chosen.

FABREGAS SLAMS ‘BORING’ LEVERKUSEN

Barcelona midfielder Cesc Fabregas has said that Barcelona were extremely boring in the recent Champions League encounter with Bayern Leverkusen.

Barcelona were drawn against Bayern Leverkusen in the last 16 of the Champions League. The Catalan club had the away leg as the first match. After failing to create a major opening in the first 40 minutes, Barcelona finally took the lead in the 42nd minute. After taking the lead, it was an easy passage for Barcelona to a convincing 3-1 win over their German opponents. This victory was extremely crucial for Barcelona, as they were coming on the back of a poor away from prior to the match.

Bayern Leverkusen defended extremely well in the match against Barcelona. Even after conceding the first goal, they were extremely brilliant in the defence. As a result, Barcelona were unable to play their open and expensive style of football.

It is very much expected that Barcelona would complete the job at the Camp Nou following the 3-1 result. However, Barcelona midfielder Cesc Fabregas has said that Barcelona were extremely boring in the match due to the negative tactics employed by Bayern Leverkusen and also due to the tactics used by manager Guardiola in order to win the game.

THEO BEMOANS CESC LOSS

After failing to impress many in recent seasons, Theo Walcott seems to finally come of age this season. The England winger has scored some crucial goals and provided some crucial assists. He has been one of the chief architects responsible for the revival of Arsenal from their poor start to the season.

Now, Arsenal are in a position where they can comfortably finish in the top four – provided they maintain their current form. Theo Walcott has admitted that Arsenal did struggle initially after losing both Cesc Fabregas and Samir Nasri in the transfer window.

However, looking back now, the England winger said that the loss of Samir Nasri and Cesc Fabregas has proved to be beneficial for the club in many ways because it has allowed them to unearth new talent within the club. Arsenal lost their two influential midfielders at the start of the season and it was rightly reflected in the opening few matches. The biggest embarrassment for Arsenal came in the form of the 8-2 hammering at the hands of Manchester United earlier in the season. Many predicted that Arsenal would sink down the table pretty quickly, but Theo Walcott and others have been able to prove that it is not the case.

“I’m not saying that Cesc and Samir were individual players, they were great team players, but when you lose two top players everyone needs to come together. The manager has brought in some good additions and we are a bit more of a team, we work harder when we haven’t got the ball,” Theo Walcott said when asked about the loss of Cesc Fabregas and Samir Nasri. Even more important for the team has been the few good signings Arsenal made on the deadline day of the biggest transfer window according to Theo Walcott

CESC’S STOCK CONTINUES TO RISE

Cesc Fabregas is performing exceptionally well for Barcelona but is still the second fiddle to Lionel Messi. However he does dream big and makes sure that he manages to live up to his dream. He has already set eyes on the victory of the La Liga, the Champions League and the Copa Del Rey.

There is no doubt that he has been a star player and this can be seen with his lifting of the UEFA Super cup, The Club World Cup and The Spanish Super Copa already this season.  He has always shown a constant hunger and desire that yearns for more and more and ensures that this New Year will also bring him a lot of victories and achievements like the last.

One of the most coveted trophies that Cesc Fabregas has set his eyes on is the Champions League and he is going to give in his best shot to ensure that Barcelona manage to lift the Champions League trophy this year.
