FABREGAS WON’T GIVE UP

Barcelona midfielder Cesc Fabregas has said that the club refused to give up on their principles and it was extremely delightful to see according to the midfielder. The former Arsenal man said that the Champions League exit would have been more painful had they given up on their philosophies in the match against Chelsea. Chelsea defended with 10 men behind the ball all the time. As a result, Barcelona were unable to play their usual passing game due to the number of bodies around the penalty box. Barcelona were also unable to cross the ball due to the lack of height within the team.

This meant that Chelsea are able to complete a stunning 3-2 win on aggregate against Barcelona, which helped them reach the final of the Champions League where they will be facing Bayern Munich. Many have been pointing out to the fact that Barcelona lacked a Plan B when the passing game was not working out. However, Fabregas has said that it was more crucial that Barcelona did not deviate from their philosophy of passing football. Despite having more than 80% of the possession in the match, Barcelona were unable to create many clear-cut opportunities apart from the penalty taken by Lionel Messi.

“It’s a painful way to go out because we were superior. The result in Stamford Bridge is what did us in. We played a great game, we dominated and we created a lot of chances. We didn’t sacrifice our style. It’s painful to be eliminated this way, seeing that we had a lot of chances to score. It’s a very hard blow. We have to hold our heads high. [Next year] we’ll have the chance to do important things,” Fabregas said after the match. Fabregas won the penalty for Barcelona, which was missed by Lionel Messi.

CESC BACKS WILSHERE

Former Arsenal captain Cesc Fabregas has said that Jack Wilshere should have taken part in the team GB at the Olympics in London. Jack Wilshere is one of the first names of the team sheet and he could have had a great chance to represent Great Britain at the London Olympics 2012.

However, the England midfielder has listened to the advice from Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger and has decided to pull away from the tournament. The midfielder is still trying to return back from the injury he suffered earlier this season. Wenger recently confirmed that Jack Wilshere will be missing the rest of the season as a result of this injury.

Cesc Fabregas moved to Barcelona in the summer for £ 35 million. Jack Wilshere was the man expected to replace the Spaniard, but the England midfielder has suffered a number of niggling injuries since the departure of Fabregas. Wilshere recently said in an interview that he has decided to pull away from the tournament after heeding the advice of Wenger.

He said that he wanted to give as much time as possible for the injury to fully heal. Cesc Fabregas, though, does not go along with this, as he says that the decision of representing Great Britain should have taken by the player and not the manager.

AMBROSINI: IT WILL BE DIFFICULT

AC Milan midfielder Massimo Ambrosini has said that his team face a very difficult task in the quarter-finals of the Champions League due to the side they will be facing – Barcelona. AC Milan have been drawn against the current champions Barcelona for the quarter-final draw. Everyone pretty much admits to the fact that Barcelona are currently the best team in the world. It is also the opinion of AC Milan midfielder Massimo Ambrosini, who expects a tough match at the San Siro. AC Milan have already faced Barcelona in the Champions League this season – in the group stages. They managed a draw at the Camp Nou, while they were defeated narrowly 3-2 at the San Siro.

AC Milan come into the match on the back of the confidence inspiring 2-1 win over Roma during the weekend. It has taken them seven points clear at the top of the table. Juventus are currently the second placed team at the moment. Ambrosini praised Barcelona by saying that they are currently the best team in the world without a share of doubt. He also said that AC Milan should not be going into the match thinking about making mistakes, because if they do so, they are bound to commit some.

“We must stop thinking that we can make mistakes. Otherwise, you unconsciously get the idea in your head that you can afford to lose games. Barcelona are the strongest side in the world, it does not take a magician to tell you that. It will be a very important and difficult match for us, but also one that will give us so much motivation. The Blaugrana have so many good players at their disposal that we have to give our best,” Ambrosini told Sky Sport Italia.
